Nod-A-Way

Tucked among the peaceful pines, Nod-A-Way is a refined, technology-forward residence that brings together functionality and comfort through smart design. Digital Horizons was brought in early during the build process to outfit the property with an integrated Control4 system that would streamline the homeowner’s experience—whether relaxing in the great room, entertaining in the rec space, or keeping an eye on security throughout the property.

The foundation of the project centered around a robust, enterprise-grade home network. Business-class networking equipment and distributed access points ensured seamless WiFi coverage throughout the home, while a complete security system—featuring intrusion monitoring, environmental sensors, and camera surveillance—offered peace of mind for the homeowner. The Control4 platform unified these systems, along with audio and entertainment features, into one cohesive and intuitive interface.

A standout moment in the project came in the main living room. Here, we installed an 85” Samsung Frame TV above a built-in fireplace and mantle. Although it wasn’t planned, the Frame TV, mantle, and fireplace aligned perfectly in width—a rare and visually stunning coincidence. To complement the minimalist look, we integrated a custom-built Leon soundbar tailored to match the TV’s dimensions. This not only preserved the sleek aesthetic of the space but also elevated the audio experience.

All AV equipment for the great room was routed to a dedicated kids’ room adjacent to the space. A pair of in-ceiling speakers tied to the Frame TV provided immersive audio, while the Leon soundbar anchored the visual balance. The in-ceiling speakers were also utilized for distributed whole-home audio, allowing for flexible playback of music throughout the home without visual clutter.

The lower level of the home was designed as a vibrant entertaining space, anchored by a golf simulator. While not a fully built-in unit, the standalone simulator required custom accommodations. Digital Horizons provided all conduit infrastructure and projector installation to ensure a clean and functional setup that blends into the design of the room. Whether hosting a party or enjoying a solo practice session, the space delivers versatility and fun.

As with all our projects, the system was anchored by a professionally installed equipment rack—neatly housing the Apple TVs, Sonos gear, amplifiers, and networking components. The Nod-A-Way home is a testament to purposeful design and thoughtful integration, combining the best of modern automation with the charm and character of a northern Minnesota retreat.
