East Gull Lake Family Home

This East Gull Lake family home was designed by Kevin J Anderson and built by Norberg Builders. This home features a multitude of technologies – a whole house audio system, a security system that provides protection for intrusion, cold temperatures, fire, and water leaks, a multi-camera surveillance system, and more.

We installed numerous speakers throughout the home, giving the owner access to their preferred music streaming services wherever they are. Each room of audio acts as an independent ‘zone’ of audio, allowing for different music selections at different volume levels if desired. The music is controlled from a dedicated wireless Control4 touchpanel in the kitchen, which uses WiFi for communication and can be taken anywhere inside or outside the home, or from their mobile devices, such as phones or tablets. The rooms can be operated independently or joined together into a “party” mode when they really want to rock out.

There are several dedicated entertaining spaces in the home where their friends and family can gather to watch a large screen TV and enhanced audio. The main level Great Room received a 65” TV on an articulating mount along with a soundbar that was concealed from view within custom cabinetry. The lower level Family Room features a 77” television and a specially designed 5.1 surround system utilizing architectural in-wall speakers and subwoofer hidden inside the custom cabinetry. These two systems and their related components are easily operated by a single smart-remote from the Control4 system – single button presses activate everything needed to enjoy their favorite sporting events or movies. AppleTV streaming devices were deployed throughout the home for giving the owners access to all of their favorite content, whether it was live TV or steamed content such as Netflix or Hulu.

A whole-house wired & WiFi network was installed for robust and reliable network connectivity throughout the entirety of the home, inside or out. Multiple ceiling-mounted WiFi access points generate their own dedicated wireless network and connected devices seamlessly ‘hop’ between the closest access point wherever they are. There is a separate network for the owners and for guests to keep network traffic separated and private. The system can support hundreds of connected devices, important in today’s technology environment where the average person can have 8-10 devices connected to their home network, between phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, appliances, etc.

All of the home’s components are remotely located in the home’s mechanical room, located inside of a dedicated floor standing equipment rack. The equipment rack allows for the home’s technology components to be spaced appropriately and wires routed appropriately, which enables a quicker installation and faster service times down the road. Doing this also completely eliminates the component clutter in each room. All devices in the equipment rack are connected to robust ‘smart’ surge protectors that will automatically reboot locked up components and allow for easier remote troubleshooting – when most components simply need a reboot to work again, these devices are life savers and prevent otherwise necessary service calls.
